Project Setup

Summary

A number of steps are required to set up a Five Safes TES Project in the Federation

  1. A Federation Operator adds a Project to the Submission Layer, along with Users and TREs who are members of the Project.
    • These member TREs and Users are unconfirmed at this stage.
  2. A TRE Operator for each TRE needs to connect their TRE Agent to the Submission Layer.
    • Each connected TRE’s Agent synchronises with the Submission Layer, pulling down its list of Member Projects and their Users.
  3. A TRE Operator, for each TRE, uses the Agent to register their approval (or not) of each Project relevant to them, as well as each Project’s individual User memberships.
    • Only when a TRE has confirmed involvement in a Project will they receive submissions for that Project
    • Only Users approved by a TRE for a Project will be allowed to make submissions for that Project to that TRE.
    • TRE’s may withdraw (or reinstate) individual User or Project approvals at any time.

This guide in the Five Safes TES Documentation covers the end to end process:

Add a Project to the Submission Layer

Additional guidance from the documentation is provided below, under each relevant step.

Submission Project Setup

Here, a Federation Operator sets up the Project in the Submission Layer.

Note

If they need to create new users, these must be added to the correct realm in KeyCloak:

Add a New User to KeyCloak

The basic Project setup process is described in the following guide, including adding an initial TRE and User:

There are also guides for adding additional Users to an existing Project:

TRE Agent Connection

A TRE Operator for each TRE needs to connect their TRE Agent to the Submission Layer.

The following guide covers both the Submission Layer and TRE Agent sides of this process:

Connect a TRE Agent

It also covers how to add a TRE to an existing Project in the Submission Layer.

Note

Once connected, the TRE Agent will start to synchronise Project and User Memberships.

TRE Project and User Approval

A TRE Operator, for each TRE, uses the Agent to register their approval (or not) of each Project relevant to them, as well as each Project’s individual User memberships.
